Production Year Chart
Omega Serial Numbers by Year
For all Omega models except the Speedmaster. Each range shows the earliest production year for that block of serial numbers. Omega's numbering is not strictly in date order, so treat every year as approximate — within one or two years. From around 2019 Omega uses random serials that can fall anywhere in this chart, so for recent watches the warranty card is the reliable date.

Where to Look
Finding Your Serial Number
01
On the Movement
On vintage Omegas the serial is the movement number, engraved on one of the bridges. You will need to open the caseback to see it.
02
On the Case
Modern Omegas carry the serial on the outside of the caseback or on the back of a lug, laser-etched in very small digits.
03
Warranty Card
The serial is also printed on the Omega warranty card. A number with dots, such as 311.30.42.30.01.005, is the reference number, not the serial.
Good to Know
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the production year?
Omega has not published a complete serial register, so all charts are compiled from watches with known dates. Movements were often made long before they were cased, so a later watch can carry a lower serial than an earlier one. Expect the result to be accurate within one or two years.
My modern Omega shows a much older year. Why?
Around 2019 Omega ran out of sequential 8-digit numbers and switched to random serials. A watch made in 2019 or later can therefore carry a serial such as 82,xxx,xxx that matches the 2007 range of the old chart. For current models, use the date on the warranty card or ask Omega.
Why does the Speedmaster have its own chart?
Speedmaster movements were numbered in separate batches that do not line up with the rest of the Omega catalogue. Using the general chart for a Speedmaster can put it several years off.
What is the difference between the serial and the reference number?
The serial is a plain number that identifies one individual watch. The reference number contains dots or letters (for example ST 145.022 or 311.30.42.30.01.005) and identifies the model, not the year.
Can I get an official date from Omega?
Yes. Omega can issue an Extract from the Archives that confirms the production date and the country the watch was originally delivered to. This is the most reliable source and adds value to a vintage piece.
Does a serial number prove a watch is authentic?
No. Serial numbers can be copied, and movements can be swapped between cases. Authentication requires checking the case, dial, movement and papers together.
