A true icon of late-1960s Breitling innovation, the Chronomat ref. 1808—nicknamed the “Big Case” or “Pizza” by collectors—was among the brand’s very first self-winding chronographs. Powered by the legendary Calibre 12 micro-rotor movement (21 600 vph, 17 jewels, 42 h power reserve), it represents the pioneering Chrono-Matic era that reshaped modern chronograph design.
This particular example, purchased new in Berlin on 20 January 1973 from Gerhard D. Wepme, is exceptionally well-preserved and comes as a complete full set—an extreme rarity among surviving 1808s. Included are the original box, World Service booklet, Chronomat manual, and Breitling International Certificate, together with a PW Certificate of Authenticity and Service Certificate Card.
The watch features the striking reverse panda dial with beautiful even patina and a minor, period-correct hairline at 9 o’clock. The imposing 48 mm stainless-steel case retains its sharp geometry and is paired with the original Breitling Genève bracelet, fitting wrists up to 19.5 cm.
Fully serviced by our Omega-certified in-house watchmaker on 22 October 2025, the movement runs flawlessly and all chronograph functions operate precisely. All parts are confirmed original.
An extraordinary collector’s opportunity—the only known full-set Breitling Chronomat 1808 currently on the market. A bold, historically significant timepiece that embodies the golden age of Swiss chronograph innovation.

Founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, Breitling has built its reputation on precision, innovation, and performance. From the early days of aviation to the modern world of exploration, Breitling watches have been trusted by pilots, adventurers, and visionaries who demand absolute reliability. Today, headquartered in Grenchen, Switzerland, Breitling continues to embody the perfect balance between technical excellence and bold design.
A pioneer in chronograph development, Breitling transformed the watch industry with the invention of the independent chronograph push-piece in 1915, followed by the second push-piece in 1934 — setting the standard for all modern chronographs. The legendary Navitimer, introduced in 1952, became the ultimate pilot’s instrument, featuring a circular slide rule that allowed aviators to perform crucial flight calculations mid-air. The Chronomat, launched in 1942, was one of the first watches to combine mechanical precision with practical functionality, later becoming a symbol of technical mastery and style.
Whether soaring through the skies or navigating life’s boldest journeys, owning a Breitling means carrying a legacy of innovation, adventure, and excellence. Every timepiece is built for those who lead with courage and live with purpose — a statement of independence, precision, and timeless Swiss craftsmanship.
