The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph Ref. 49140/423A is a remarkable piece of horological history, representing the very first generation of the Overseas Chronograph. Introduced in 1999 and produced until the mid-2000s, this 40 mm stainless steel chronograph embodies Vacheron’s vision of a luxury sports watch, inspired by the legendary 222 of 1977. Its instantly recognizable Maltese cross bezel, integrated bracelet, and engraved Amerigo Vespucci ship caseback make it one of the most iconic designs in the brand’s modern era.
This watch is in excellent condition, having been fully serviced by our in-house Omega certified watchmaker in August 2025. During the service, the movement received a complete overhaul, the case and integrated bracelet were lightly polished, and a new bezel gasket was installed. The watch also successfully passed a water-resistance test. It comes as a full set, including the original outer box, presentation box, documents envelope, manual, Vacheron Constantin booklet, world service booklet, and the Certificate of Origin and Warranty dated 08/10/2001. A documented service history from 2020 further adds to its provenance.
The black dial, with its luminous markers and subdials at 12, 6, and 9 o’clock, offers superb readability and balance, while the date is neatly placed between 4 and 5 o’clock. Inside ticks the Vacheron Constantin Calibre 1137, based on the highly regarded Frédéric Piguet 1185, featuring a column-wheel chronograph mechanism admired for its precision and smooth operation. The integrated stainless steel bracelet is suitable for wrists up to 19 cm.
With 150 m water resistance, screw-down crown and pushers, and anti-magnetic protection, this Overseas was designed to be a true travel companion—luxurious yet robust. Collectors prize this reference for its role as the first Overseas chronograph, a model that bridged Vacheron’s classic heritage with its modern sports watch identity.
A rare opportunity to own an important part of Vacheron Constantin’s history, in superb condition, with full set and complete service record.

Founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron in Geneva, Switzerland, Vacheron Constantin is the world’s oldest continuously operating watch manufacturer — a maison where time is not merely measured, but artfully sculpted. For over 265 years, Vacheron Constantin has embodied the pinnacle of Swiss craftsmanship, technical mastery, and refined aesthetics, creating timepieces for royalty, connoisseurs, and collectors who demand nothing less than perfection.
Vacheron’s legacy is defined by groundbreaking creations that shaped the very essence of fine watchmaking. The Patrimony collection captures pure elegance through minimalist design and flawless proportions — a tribute to mid-century sophistication. The Overseas, introduced in 1996, blends sport and luxury with effortless grace, designed for those who travel the world in style. And the Historiques American 1921, inspired by a 1920s driver’s watch with a diagonal dial, reinterprets vintage charm for the modern era.
Throughout its history, Vacheron Constantin has set remarkable milestones — from crafting bespoke masterpieces for monarchs and dignitaries to creating the Reference 57260, the most complicated mechanical watch ever made, with 57 complications.
Owning a Vacheron Constantin is not just acquiring a timepiece — it’s embracing a legacy of artistry, heritage, and innovation. Each watch carries the Hallmark of Geneva, symbolizing unmatched precision and craftsmanship, and stands as a timeless reflection of excellence for those who value true horological distinction.
